Powder Coating Services

Powder Coated AluminiumPowder coating refers to the technique and application of dry paint to a specific part of a machine, or component that belongs to a structure, and was originally launched as a response to environmental pressures that were beginning to arise within Europe during the 1940’s.

It created an alternative to traditional spray painting that is only growing in popularity. Powder coating is a very durable and cost effective coating that is typically used for aluminium, mild steel, stainless steel and wrought iron surfaces.

Typical uses for powder coating include the coating of various metals such as:

  • Aluminium extrusions
  • Workshop tools
  • Household appliances
  • Bicycle parts
  • Car parts
  • Zinc coated / Galvanised steel

Powder coating is extremely durable and tougher than regular paint; it won’t chip, peel or fade in harsh weather conditions.

We also provide a protective coating that ensures all newly abrasive blasted surfaces are durable, while maintaining incredible shine when used in typical situations that cause general wear and tear.

Our team has a strong reputation for maintaining a high level of professionalism with high quality powder coating results that set us aside from the rest.

We are more than happy to provide advice or answer any questions about powder coatings. So give us a call on 08 9303 9000 and one of our friendly staff will be able help!

Powder Coating Pre-Treatment

Preparation of any substrate is arguably the most important stage of powder coating. Even if the application is correctly applied the finished product will always fail to some degree if the metal surface is improperly treated and handled. That is why we ensure that whatever passes through our factory is treated using the Australian Standard as a minimum benchmark. Testament to our careful handling of pre-treated substrates is our accreditation to be an authorised warranty applicator passing Intrpons strict procedural rules, most of which we have in place for non-warranty jobs to ensure its film integrity and corrosion protection is always the longest timeframe possibly achieved.

Primers for Powder Coating

Understanding what primer to use and when is very important to the integrity of the film, the corrosion protection and how long it will last. We use two different types of primers an Epoxy Primer and a Zinc Primer depending on the environment your item will be in and the type of metal used in fabrication, the choice of primer will change.

A Zinc primer is typically used as a sacrificial layer creating a high level of corrosion protection. An Epoxy primer will be used as a minor secondary level of protection and mainly for its aesthetic uses by smoothing over any impurities in the metal, perfect for hot dip galvanised substrates.

We pride ourselves on giving the best advice when it comes to what processes we will be using. When contacting Universal Coatings we are happy to discuss in as much detail as required what system we recommend and why.
